Weekly Track Review- Top 5 Song From January 09-16, 2026

Hi everyone. This is Anthony Stirford from Anthony XO.Music, and I’m back with a new track review. This time, I’m reviewing the Top 5 songs released last week.

Over the past week, we received major releases from artists like Zach Bryan, Bruno Mars, French Montana, The Kid LAROI, Luke Combs, A$AP Rocky, and more. From that list, I’ve selected five standout tracks and ranked them based on impact, replay value, and overall quality. Let’s get into it.

Number Five: The Kid LAROI – “MAYBE I’M WRONG”

At number five, I’ve picked “MAYBE I’M WRONG” by The Kid LAROI. In my review of his new album Before I Forget, I mentioned that this song is exactly what I expected from LAROI, and it delivers on that expectation.

The track is built around raw emotion, which is essential for a breakup-focused album. LAROI expresses vulnerability here in a way that feels honest and effective. I especially enjoyed the melancholic piano chords paired with heavy synths, which subtly recall Bruno Mars’ early eras. Because of its emotional depth and strong production, this ended up being my favorite track from Before I Forget, earning its place as the fifth-best new song of last week.

Number Four: French Montana & Max B – “Whippin That Wave”

At number four, I chose “Whippin That Wave” by French Montana and Max B. On January 9, 2026, the duo reunited for their collaborative album Coke Wave 3.5: Narcos, released following Max B’s return from prison in late 2025.

“Whippin That Wave” stands out immediately thanks to its hard-hitting, piano-driven production. The track captures a classic New York street-rap aesthetic, with instrumentals that feel reminiscent of late-2000s Nas. Both Montana and Max B deliver confident performances that echo the energy of early 2000s hip-hop. For these reasons, I’ve placed “Whippin That Wave” at number four on this list.

Number Three: Natasha Hamilton – “Numb”

At number three is Natasha Hamilton’s new single, “Numb.” The British singer recently returned with this track, making it one of the first electro-pop standouts of 2026.

On “Numb,” Hamilton balances emotional vulnerability with quiet strength. I really liked the song’s atmospheric tone, the prominent guitar picking, and its high-energy production. Overall, the track reminded me of the early 2010s Black Eyed Peas era, both in sound and energy. That’s why “Numb” earns the third spot this week.

Number Two: Zach Bryan – “Plastic Cigarette”

At number two, I picked Zach Bryan’s “Plastic Cigarette.” Last week, Bryan released his full-length album With Heaven On Top, and this track quickly emerged as one of its highlights. It has become the most-streamed song from the album and is already being seen as one of 2026’s early country standouts.

The song gained strong attention when Bryan first performed it during his Dublin show last year, and its official release only amplified that response. Built around slow acoustic guitar chords and Bryan’s raw vocal delivery, “Plastic Cigarette” has strong replay value and a nostalgic feel that makes it instantly memorable. For me, it clearly earns the number two spot.

Number One: Bruno Mars – “I Just Might”

At number one, I’ve selected Bruno Mars’ “I Just Might” as the best new song of last week. Recently, Mars announced his first studio album in ten years and followed it up with this single as the official lead.

“I Just Might” pulled in 13.7 million on-demand streams in the U.S. within its first four days and became the most-streamed new release of the week on Spotify. From the first listen, I was drawn to its retro reggae influence. The production features groovy guitar riffs, prominent basslines, and retro-style handclaps that create a strong 1970s funk vibe. The song also reminded me of Mars’ earlier hit “The Lazy Song.” His performance here is effortless and confident, making this track a perfect teaser for his upcoming album and an easy choice for number one.
